Lenten Carbon Fast 2020 ~ 4th Tuesday

Learn more about the impact of plastics on our oceans and the animals that live in them

According to the Ocean Society, plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to ocean health worldwide. Each year some much plastic waste enters the ocean…enough to line every foot of coastline. This waste stream entering the ocean continues on an upward track and is expected to double in the next 10 years.

The Oceanic Society offers Seven Ways that we each can make a difference in reducing this damaging waste stream.

  1. Reduce You Use of Single-Use Plasics
  2. Recycle Properly
  3. Participate in (or Organize) a Beach or River Cleanup
  4. Support Bans
  5. Avoid Products Containing Microbeads
  6. Spread the Word
  7. Support Organizations Addressing Plastic Pollution

Even if you’ve been an avid recycler for years, take the extra step of cutting up 6-pact holders and the like – even with our best intentions our recycling efforts are not always achieved after leaving our hands.

Isaiah 42:14-21

NABRE

Isaiah 42

14For a long time I have kept silent,I have said nothing, holding myself back; Now I cry out like a woman in labor, gasping and panting.15 I will lay waste mountains and hills, all their undergrowth I will dry up;I will turn the rivers into marshes, and the marshes I will dry up.16I will lead the blind on a way they do not know;by paths they do not know I will guide them.I will turn darkness into light before them, and make crooked ways straight. These are my promises:I made them, I will not forsake them.17They shall be turned back in utter shamewho trust in idols;Who say to molten images,“You are our gods.”18You deaf ones, listen, you blind ones, look and see!19Who is blind but my servant,or deaf like the messenger I send?Who is blind like the one I restore, blind like the servant of the LORD?20You see many things but do not observe;ears open, but do not hear.21It was the LORD’s will for the sake of his justiceto make his teaching great and glorious.

Colossians 1:9-14

Colossians 1

9Therefore, from the day we heard this, we do not cease praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding 10to live in a manner worthy of the Lord, so as to be fully pleasing, in every good work bearing fruit and growing in the knowledge of God, 11strengthened with every power, in accord with his glorious might, for all endurance and patience, with joy 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light. 13He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Psalm 146

NABRE

Psalms 146

1Hallelujah!2Praise the LORD, my soul;I will praise the LORD all my life, sing praise to my God while I live.3Put no trust in princes,in children of Adam powerless to save.4Who breathing his last, returns to the earth;that day all his planning comes to nothing.5Blessed the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD, his God,6The maker of heaven and earth, the seas and all that is in them,Who keeps faith forever,7secures justice for the oppressed, who gives bread to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free;8the LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD raises up those who are bowed down;the LORD loves the righteous.9The LORD protects the resident alien, comes to the aid of the orphan and the widow, but thwarts the way of the wicked.10The LORD shall reign forever, your God, Zion, through all generations!Hallelujah!
