Lenten Carbon Fast 2020 ~ 6th Saturday

Wrap creatively. Are there any birthdays coming up that you need gifts for? Try wrapping presets in recycled newspapers.

This is an action idea that has been around a very long time. Today’s photo comes from a blog post titled, Fact: Old Newspaper is the Greatest Gift Wrap of All Time and the author recounts the first time of receiving a gift wrapped in comics as a child.

My brother was the first in our family to wrap gifts in this way and for the next several years many of the gifts under the Christmas tree colored with the Sunday comics. While I fell away from that practice after a few years, he keep the tradition for the rest of his life mostly using discarded blueprints.

Lamentations 3:55-66

Lamentations 3

55I have called upon your name, O LORD,from the bottom of the pit;56You heard me call, “Do not let your ear be deafto my cry for help.”57You drew near on the day I called you;you said, “Do not fear!”58You pleaded my case, Lord, you redeemed my life.59You see, LORD, how I am wronged;do me justice!60You see all their vindictiveness, all their plots against me.61You hear their reproach, LORD,all their plots against me,62The whispered murmurings of my adversaries, against me all day long;63Look! Whether they sit or stand,I am the butt of their taunt.64Give them what they deserve, LORD,according to their deeds;65Give them hardness of heart;your curse be upon them;66Pursue them in wrath and destroy themfrom under the LORD’s heaven!

Mark 10:32-34

Mark 10

32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him. 33“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles 34who will mock him, spit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death, but after three days he will rise.”

Psalm 31:9-16

Psalms 31

9You will not abandon me into enemy hands, but will set my feet in a free and open space.10Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am in distress;affliction is wearing down my eyes,my throat and my insides.11My life is worn out by sorrow, and my years by sighing. My strength fails in my affliction;my bones are wearing down.12To all my foes I am a thing of scorn, and especially to my neighborsa horror to my friends. When they see me in public, they quickly shy away.13I am forgotten, out of mind like the dead;I am like a worn-out tool.14I hear the whispers of the crowd;terrors are all around me.They conspire together against me;they plot to take my life.15But I trust in you, LORD;I say, “You are my God.”16My destiny is in your hands;rescue me from my enemies, from the hands of my pursuers.
